Its always been done before in one way shape or form.
People take inspiration from others work, it sparks ideas and twists of their own..and thats a good thing.
But what about when someone copies your work/take/idea a little too closely, concept, pose etc and claims it as their own? is it just a case of being the grown up and thinking..eh flattery..

I got an email a few weeks back, anon of course, to tell me that a small art gallery in the US had run a project on'self' and people had been enthusing about a highly commended entry, how the concept was so good ,original etc..and was submitted in Sept
The entry was called 'Society is ugly'

pbs.twimg.com/media/BxsUse0CQA…

Thing is..its not just 'passingly' similar to my own'Outside influences' image that got a DD and went viral all over the damned net towards the end if August..

Outside influences project Fashion edition 2 by Harpyimages

Its more just to see how others would feel about it than anything
See, its one of those situations that I never really thought I would find myself in...and its weird, Im kind of leaning towards irritated but, then again,Im not sure :/

Ive never claimed any of my concepts to be original, just..my take on the concept at hand...I admit to taking inspiration from others, but never to 'copy' or replicate, that would be a sucky thing for me to do.
So to find someone has pretty much done just that to me, was..strange..

It turns out a museum in the US ran an exhibition on the concept of 'self'..all well and good, happens all the time, but this one had an entry that ..well, lets just say had some rather strong similarities..
So strong, that the sat on the floor almost crossed legged pose was the same, the girl in her underwear, the spread of the magazines round the base of the girl in question attempted to be the same, looking down, scissors in hand, holding tummy in the other..and tagged with 'Society is ugly'.
It got a highly commended in the exhibition.
It was SO similar that I got an email to tell me, which is how I knew in the first place...
Now, tbh without a LOT of money to throw at lawyers, there is bugger all I can do,Its not like I am a Lachapelle with a tonne of cash..and then here is proving it, which ..well it would be impossible, you cant 'copyright' a concept as such.... but its damned irritating :/
I havent put up links, although I do have them..but I am more throwing this out there to ask, what would you do, would you do anything, would you shrug it off and chuckle or would you take it more seriously, I really cant decide how I should feel about this?

Harpy images is my beginner-step photography portfolio.
Sirensong being my model one as I am one of those annoying "modeltographer" types.
Its an interest I have held for a very long time and after watching with huge interest photographers I have worked with and how they work, I finally got a camera and started taking pictures of my own.
Anything dark and twisted tends to appeal, as do concepts based on how I see the world..but I have a very warped sense of humour and this I think sometimes shows in my subject matter

I have taken to calling myself a " faux-tographer " rather than a real one because at the moment everything I am doing is purely from the little I can already do and the rest is by feel so to speak...and a little help from photoshop if I am honest.

I have had some experience and am lucky enough to be being given tips, hints, help and coaching by some wonderfully talented photographers along the way... they have taught me so much and its something I am incredibly and eternally grateful for.
